LaMDA’s remarkable aptitude at Turing’s Imitation Game
LaMDA hasn't participated in such a game though (as far as I know). The rules of a Turing Test are inherently adversarial, which is completely different from Lemoine's performative improv routine or collaborative fanfiction project, whatever you want to call it.
The interrogator needs to be deliberately asking questions to catch out the test subject, and there needs to be a human test subject to compare their answers to. These are requirements of the test procedure specified in the Long Bet[1] between Ray Kurzweil and Mitchell Kapor, and an AI passing this would have a much greater claim to sentience than LaMDA does.
